bbc + harry and paul = angry filipinos

this is the video that made a lot of filipinos angrrryyy

my take:

comedies are not to be taken seriously,

comedies at times are supposed to be stupid.

the skit is not funny as in.

i think it's more of sexist rather than racist,

that the maid happened to be a filipina is beside the point.

i think the anger over one bad/distasteful comedy is over the top.

the issues that the government should be attending to are

how are philippine embassies in making sure justice is being served to abused/maltreated ofws? hello? sexual abuse of the dh's are much more serious than this stupid joke....

what is our government doing to make sure its people don't have to slave away in far away countries, or as in the show's case, practically whore themselves out? give filipino people more choice...

the sketch may be repulsively offensive but it doesn't mean one can't look at it as a social commentary. take a look around and see the REAL situation...

  1. it's like desperate housewives all over again!

pero nakakatawa after nung nangyari sa desperate housewives naganap yung cebu scandal....

so yeah i think comedies minsan are observational, half meant kung baga...

    may tawag dyan eh.

  6. so this is the controversial video---I heard that Filipinos in UK are planning to make an official protest against the BBc.

Yeah, one way or another comedies are not meant to be taken seriously but we cannot also deny the fact that indeed some people/ groups take advantage of such medium to advance their racist/ sexist intentions. After all, it's not humorous. If the clip made me laught, I should have forgiven them, but it didn't.....

  7. medyo po kasi hindi maganda pakingan, especially if you're an OFW, tapos DH ka, tapos mapapnood mo yun, hindi po nkakatuwa. I'm an OFW myself here in Singapore, not a DH though, and i'm not going to tolerate this because i know, or we OFWs know, hindi madali trabaho abroad, at ang malayo sa pamilya, pero ginagawa namin to para sa mga pamilya namin sa pinas.

so sana maintindihan po natin bakit madaming pinoy ang nagagalit...

  9. Yes, we have many more important things to worry about than complain about comedies. In fact, as I explained in my post, I think Filipinos misunderstood British humour. Unfortunately, the comedy sketch has touched a raw nerve in the UK's Filipino community.

    (Edited typo in previous post.)
