the one with japanese geisha shoes

look at these japanese shoes!
they look death defying... good luck to their toes...

they're inspired from the geisha shoes, here's an old geisha and take a look at her foot! little foot... looks like it's been through hell and back. i can't imagine the pain...

yikesss!

UPDATE: according to anonymous commenter the lady in the picture is chinese and foot binding is a chinese practice, according to him/her the lady must be a lady of the court. thanks for the info!

  9. I hardly wear heels and can't understand why ladies wear such high heels, it's a torture man!! Looking at the small feet of the old lady makes me sweat!

  10. Very interesting photos. She could have been just a regular woman from a middle class or upper class family, not neccessarily part of the court. Its was a practice of beauty to the people of the time, no different to sillicone breast implants that have been found later on to cause serious health issues. The things women do to apeal to what society says is beautifull has not changed in hundreds of years, from suffocating corsets to foot binding to plastic surgery. Its a never ending cycle of seeking perfect beauty. Shame when perfect beauty is already there in a warm smile.
