rap music can be traced waaayyyy back in many ways to its african roots. bajillion years before the u.s. existed, the griots (african poets) of west africa were delivering stories rhythmically (how cool was that!), over drums and sparse instrumentation. because of the time that has passed since the griots of old, the connections between rap and the african griots are widely established, but not clear-cut.
now due to globalization/westernization and stuff rap music is also embraced here in asia. check out these asianized hip-hop
